i understand wanting to make a name for yourself in this community. i think we can all relate to wondering whether a new original character will take off, or whether we are doing our canon character justice. that’s normal. it’s to be expected. however, i can promise you that people will respect you more if you take the time to really think about your character. you don’t have to know every little detail about them ( those details sometimes fall into place as you write ), but put some thought into who they are. consider their expression when they realize they’re in love for the first time, or the pain that radiates from their chest when they lose someone important. think about how they look when they first wake up in the morning, and what words spill from their lips when they’ve had too much to drink or are simply high on life at four am. REALLY PUT YOUR MIND TO WORK AND THINK ABOUT THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKE UP WHO YOUR CHARACTER IS. don’t steal from someone else. don’t take what they’ve thought up and worked hard to create. people will see what you’ve done and they will lose respect for you. you’re dooming yourself before you even have a chance to see whether that new character of yours can fly. don’t do that to yourself. don’t do that to anyone else, either.
